CALEXANDRIA, Va., Aug. 09Anne Kelhart, director of safety and human resources for Martin Stone Quarries, Bechtelsville, Pa., was named the National Stone, Sand and Gravel Association (NSSGA) James M. Christie Safety and Health Professional of the Year. The coveted award will be presented at luncheon on Oct. 5 in conjunction with NSSGAs Environment, Safety and Health Regulatory Summit in Alexandria, Va.
A 16-year veteran of aggregates mining safety, Kelhart has steered Martin Stone to four awards under the Sentinels of Safety program for outstanding safety performance. Kelhart is an accomplished trainer and has earned an unprecedented three National TRAM Training Materials Competition awards in the Metal/Nonmetal Division, Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA). She has professional designations as a certified mine Safety professional, SHRM national PHR and trainer, and a DOL/MSHA Blue Card instructor.
She is active member of the International Society of Mine Safety Professionals and NSSGAs Safety and Health Committee, and provided instruction on behalf of NSSGA during the 2004 NSSGA-MSHA Spring Thaw Seminar series. For the past three years, she has chaired the Pennsylvania Aggregates and Concrete Associations (PACA) Safety Committee. Under her leadership, PACA sponsored an Independent Contractor Training program to certify contractors performing services on mining operations in Pennsylvania.
Kelhart serves on the National Executive Board of the Joseph A. Holmes Safety Association (HSA). She helped create and served as the inaugural president of the Northeast Pennsylvania Aggregates Council of the HSA. She serves on the planning committee for the Eastern Pennsylvania joint Pennsylvania State University and MSHA Safety Conference. Over the years, she has been a steadfast supporter of MSHAs Stay Out Stay Alive program.
Anne works hard for the safety of all those who find themselves on mine property and has often said that the mining community knows no corporate boundaries when it comes to the safety of those on mine property, said Rod Martin, vice president, Martin Stone Quarries.
